Dawn Lim is the owner of Cafe Karung Guni, which buys and sells used kitchen equipment, promoting recycling and providing a more affordable alternative to start-up eateries.
She started out as an F&B operator herself, with Singapore's first DIY pancake cafe, Nook, in 2012. She sold the business in 2016, and started Cafe Karung Guni after witnessing first-hand many outlets closing down after just a couple of months of operating, their almost-brand new equipment, furniture, and flatware made worthless overnight.
At the same time, smaller outlets cannot afford expensive but useful equipment that can help to reduce reliance on labour. That's where Cafe Karung Guni's services come in.
